How Woke is My Veggie Burger?

You may not know this, but if you eat veggie burgers, you are woke. How do I know this? I have it on expert advice.

You see, the anti-woke crowd says when Chick-fil-A, Cracker Barrel, and McDonalds introduce veggie burgers, they have gone woke. Or when Xbox releases a carbon aware console that allows gamers to power down to fight climate change, they have become woke.

Anti-wokers call it the “woke industrial complex,” and as Republican Senator John Kennedy of Louisiana says, woke people are “people who hate George Washington, Thomas Jefferson, Abraham Lincoln, Dr. Seuss, and Mr. Potato Head, hyperventilate on their yoga mats if you use the wrong pronoun, and carry around bags of kale to give them energy.”

But what exactly is woke and what is the history of the word? It has an important background, including being invoked by Martin Luther King Jr. in the last Sunday sermon he gave, one week before his death.
